Redondo Beach, CA – June 3, 2025

Surfx Technologies, a leading U.S. provider of atmospheric plasma surface solutions, today announced its acquisition by Mycronic’s Global Technologies division, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This strategic acquisition strengthens Surfx’s position in the fast-growing market for advanced semiconductor packaging and 3D die stacking technologies.

Surfx Technologies specializes in vacuum-free plasma cleaning systems that deliver high-performance surface activation and oxide removal for semiconductor packaging, printed circuit board assembly, and medical device manufacturing. These systems are designed for seamless integration into inline production environments, including thermocompression bonders, hybrid bonders, and inkjet printing platforms.

“Our patented atmospheric plasma technology is uniquely suited for high-throughput, high-precision semiconductor packaging applications,” said Dr. Robert Hicks, President of Surfx Technologies. “Joining Mycronic allows us to scale our innovation and meet the growing global demand for AI-driven chip packaging and heterogeneous integration.”

Surfx’s plasma cleaning engines are increasingly adopted in 3D IC packaging, a key enabler of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC). Unlike traditional plasma systems, Surfx’s solutions operate at atmospheric pressure, eliminating the need for vacuum chambers and enabling cost-effective, inline plasma processing.

With 34 employees across the U.S. and Taiwan and projected 2025 revenues of USD 25–30 million, Surfx will now operate as a dedicated business line within Mycronic’s Global Technologies division. Mycronic previously held a 7.5% equity stake in Surfx.

“Surfx’s innovative plasma cleaning technology is a game-changer for 3D semiconductor packaging,” said Magnus Marthinsson, Senior Vice President of Global Technologies at Mycronic. “This acquisition reinforces our commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions for the semiconductor industry’s most advanced manufacturing challenges.”
