Improving adhesive and material performance

  • Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is the most common form of silicone.
  • PDMS is a preferred material in medical device manufacturing because of its stability and biocompatibility.
  • Unfortunately, PDMS exhibits very low surface energy, which makes coating and bonding the material difficult.
  • Surfx plasma treatment rapidly increases the surface energy of PDMS, enabling coating and bonding of your components.
  • Surfx plasma sources are water-cooled, allowing you to activate small PDMS components or thin PDMS membranes without thermal damage.
